Millwall have signed Brighton and England U21 striker Tommy Watson and Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson on loan until the end of the season.

Watson, 19, was originally a product of the Sunderland academy making 24 appearances for the Black Cats.

He scored the last minute winner against Sheffield United in the Championship play off final at Wembley last May which took Sunderland to the top flight.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Patterson boosts Alex Neil's goalkeeping options at The Den having also been a vital part of Sunderland's promotion push last season.

He kept 14 clean sheets in 45 matches for the Black Cats as they won promotion to the Premier League but has made just one appearance for the club this season.

A move to Brighton for a fee of £10million followed last summer and he has made six appearances in the Premier League for the Seagulls this campaign.

Millwall's director of football Steve Gallen told the club website the Lions had fought off attentions of a number of clubs to land Watson.

"There were a lot of clubs in for him, but he decided to join us," said Gallen. "He's a good young player is who bright, versatile and full of energy, plus he is an England Under-21 international this season."

Speaking of Patterson, Gallen added: "He has big-game experience under his belt and he was ever-present for Sunderland last year. He will now link-up with the goalkeeping department and add competition with regards to a starting position.
