It is no secret that Barça are on the hunt to sign a new central defender in the summer of 2026. But for now, the club’s defensive plans have taken a backseat, with the Blaugrana clearly prioritising offensive reinforcements.

While it has been acknowledged that the Pole has significantly improved his game this season, there are doubts over his continuity, considering he will turn 38 next season.

Therefore, for the better functioning of the team, it will be essential to sign a new number nine, who can emerge as a replacement for Lewandowski in the long run.
The new player will be expected to score goals and become the main productivity driver of the team, rather than just filling up the numbers in the attacking position.
While Barcelona do consider defence to be a key area of reinforcement, their plans have taken a backseat, considering the return of Ronald Araujo has already improved the balance of the team.
On top of that, Eric Garcia has done supremely well and has been handed a new contract, while Gerard Martin, too, has impressed coach Hansi Flick.
Therefore, unless a specific market opportunity comes across, Barcelona are not expected to tinker with their defence, at least until they secure the services of a desired replacement for Lewandowski.
