With Blackburn right in the thick of a relegation scrap, EFL pundit Darrell Clarke believes the club may have blundered in getting rid of manager Valerien Ismael.
Caretaker manager Damien Johnson arrested a slump of eight winless games when they beat Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday in Rovers' first match following the Frenchman's sacking.
Blackburn went ahead of West Brom on goal difference but they remain just a place outside the relegation zone.
Speaking on the latest edition of the BBC's 72+ EFL podcast, former Bristol Rovers manager Clarke suggested the club may yet regret the decision to dispense with experience in the dugout in the midst of a relegation scrap.
"I think they would have been better sticking with him to the end of the season," said Clarke. "He has been there, seen it, done it and Dean Whitehead was his assistant who I've had at a few of my clubs as well.
"Sometimes it is better the devil you know.
"It is easy to go – when you have not won for eight games – let's get rid of the manager. But [only if] they are going to bring in someone really experienced now who has been there and seen a relegation fight.
"Working with a young group as well it is going to be a tough ask. He [Ismael] is used to getting teams out of those situations and I think he would have just about kept them up. Now I fear for them."
