Real Madrid could receive a major boost in their search for defensive reinforcements, as Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck reportedly prefers a move to the Spanish giants if he decides to leave Germany.
According to a recent update from BILD, the 26-year-old defender sees Real Madrid as his favourite destination.
In that regard, Los Blancos is also monitoring his situation closely, and his expected price tag of between €40 million and €50 million is not seen as a major obstacle for the club.
Notably, Schlotterbeck’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until 2027, but the German side is pushing hard to secure a renewal.
Defensive reinforcements
Real Madrid have already made it clear internally that strengthening the defence is a priority for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The club is planning a high-profile signing in that area, and Schlotterbeck has emerged as one of the main names on their shortlist.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Los Blancos are serious about pursuing the German international.
While Dortmund continue to try to convince him to stay, there is a growing belief inside the Bundesliga club that keeping him long term may be difficult.

In fact, Dortmund are said to be preparing for the possibility of a summer sale, as the club do not want to risk the defender running down his contract and leaving for free in the future.
As a result, they could be willing to negotiate if a strong offer arrives at the end of the season.
A perfect fit?
From Real Madrid’s perspective, Schlotterbeck is seen as a defender who fits the club’s needs.
He is experienced, comfortable on the ball, and already proven at the top level. At 26, he also offers a good balance between immediate impact and long-term value.
The main challenge for Real Madrid is the competition, as several top European clubs are also tracking the German centre-back, which could make the deal more complicated.
Still, the player’s reported preference for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu could become the decisive factor.
If Schlotterbeck pushes for the transfer, Real Madrid may find themselves in a strong position to secure one of their key defensive targets for the summer.
