Larne 'not ruthless enough' against Blues – Haveron

Larne manager Gary Haveron says the playing conditions were "really difficult" during his side's 0-0 draw with Linfield at Windsor Park.

The result means that the Inver Reds extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points and are now unbeaten in their last 15 league matches.

Haveron's side had chances of their own early in the game but, in the final 15 minutes, relied on stopper Rohan Ferguson to keep the game goalless.

"Should have won it, could have lost it," Gary Haveron told BBC Sport NI.

"We want to be brave when we come to places like here, but we lost our way for the last 10/15minutes. It's a disappointing way to finish the game.

"You need to be ruthless in this league and, to be a top side, you have to be really, really ruthless and we just weren't ruthless tonight."

It was a game of few chances with neither team having many clear-cut opportunities until the closing stages.

However, after heavy rain, the pitch at Windsor Park was impacted with co-commentator David Jeffrey labelling the conditions as "dreadful" and Haveron also voicing his concerns.

"I have to say, it wasn't easy for either team to play on that pitch tonight," the 44-year-old said.

"The National Stadium and that is the quality of the pitch? I am sure David [Healy] is incredibly frustrated with the surface and it was really, really difficult to play on.

"That is not an excuse, it was the same for both teams."

The 44-year-old also dismissed Coleraine manager Ruaidhri Higgins' comments that Larne’have one hand on the trophy’.

"He can say all he wants, anybody else is just outside noise to us," he continued.

"We focus on what we do and just look at the next game."
