Following their massive 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield, Manchester City has a critical Premier League fixture against Fulham at the Etihad Stadium up next. The match takes place tomorrow night. Pep Guardiola’s side has an opportunity to continue the momentum they’ve built by getting the Anfield monkey off their backs after their inspirational come-from-behind win. They’ll take on a Fulham side that is a handful on their day, and City cannot afford not to capitalize on the momentum they’ve built from their win at Anfield.
Fulham will be a tough opponent for Manchester City to contend with after Sunday’s match.
Manchester City will take on Marco Silva’s Fulham side tomorrow night. Fulham are a team that can be a tough test for any opponent. Although Fulham sit 12th in the Premier League table, Marco Silva’s side are a dangerous opponent. We saw this during Manchester City’s 5-4 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage at the beginning of December. City were 5-1 up on that day, but Marco Silva’s side didn’t give up the fight on that night to get it back to 5-4. If not for a desperate Josko Gvardiol goal line clearance, Marco Silva’s side would’ve made it 5-all.
So the challenge is in front of Pep Guardiola’s side tomorrow night. They have to beat Fulham to keep in touch with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. More important than that, City have to build on the momentum they’ve built with their victory over Liverpool. If City drop points tomorrow night, they’ll squander the good feeling and momentum they gained at Anfield. Tomorrow night’s match could reveal if Manchester City have it in them to go on a run after such a famous victory.
Pep Guardiola knows that Fulham will pose a tough challenge for his team.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s match, Pep Guardiola acknowledged that Fulham, on their day, can be a quality team. They have one of the better managers in the Premier League in Marco Silva, so Manchester City will have to be on their game to avoid slipping up at the Etihad. Speaking on Fulham, Pep Guardiola said: “Fulham is better every season, with the movements. When I see for example their game against Manchester United this morning, that they lost at the end to the Sesko goal, they are really good. The patterns and quality they have, the composure with the play and the speed they have.”
“Defensive and offensive is really good. Marco [Silva] is one of the top, top managers I’ve faced. Even though the results have been good because Man City have more opportunities in terms of top players. But he is a top, top manager and has the destiny to be one of top ones in a few years for sure.”
Manchester City built momentum by beating Liverpool at Anfield. The manner in which Pep Guardiola’s side came back to beat the current Premier League champions gives City the opportunity to build on that critical victory. To do that, City must beat Fulham at the Etihad. There is no other option. If City doesn’t beat Marco Silva’s side, they’ll have squandered a great moment, and that simply cannot be afforded to happen.
