Stuttgart attacker Silas’ transfer to FSV Mainz 05 has been officially confirmed. As reported by Get German Football News yesterday, Mainz will be paying a six-figure transfer fee for the Congo DR international. The amount rendered to Stuttgart can increase to above €1m if Silas’ new Bundesliga club manages to avoid relegation. Silas scored a total 35 goals in 132 appearances across all competitions during his six-year Stuttgart career.
Silas serves as Mainz’s second addition of the January transfer window. The Rheinhessen are also betting that another out-of-form Bundesliga professional – former Augsburg striker Phillip Tietz – can once again hack it in the German top flight and ultimately help them avoid the drop. Mainz’s two new attacking additions have a scored a combined total of 37 Bundesliga goals in their careers.
Words on Silas’ Mainz signing
“Everyone immediately associates Silas with speed, assertiveness in one-on-one situations, and goal-scoring ability,” Mainz sporting director Nico Bungert noted in a club statement. “Silas is a reinforcement for our team and shall bring new facets to our offensive play.”
