Picking up points on the road is vital – Dicker

Crewe Alexandra assistant coach Ryan Dicker said Tuesday's draw at play-off rivals Barnet will keep the squad believing they can have a positive end to the League Two season.

The Alex stayed a point ahead of their hosts in the table after the1-1 draw, stretching their mini unbeaten run to three games in the process.

It left them 10th in the table, six points behind seventh-placed Walsall, currently in the final play-spot.

Dicker told BBC Radio Stoke, Crewe were "well off it" in the first 20 minutes against Barnet having trailed to Kabongo Tshimanga's seventh-minute opener for the hosts.

But after Crewe "grew back into the game" following a tweak in formation to a back-three, Owen Lunt's well-worked equaliser on 32 minutes ultimately sealed a point.

Dicker was pleased another point had been banked on the road after holding leaders Bromley a week earlier.

"Momentum's important and that's two difficult away trips now and we've picked up points in both of them," he said.

"And in between that we've sandwiched in three points at home against Colchester, so we've got to make sure we keep picking up points on the road if we want to be in amongst it in the next few weeks."

With 16 games to go, Crewe's run of only one defeat in seven has Lee Bell's side firmly in the pack chasing the top seven teams.

Dicker said their current form should keep the squad thinking positively about the run-in.

"It's got to give them some confidence, not that they were short of it, but it's got to give them that bit of extra belief – knowing that if we turn up and we perform and we stay in games we can pick points up," he said.

"If we can do that away from home and make sure we continue with our home record [nine league games unbeaten] we should have a good end to the season."
