Real Madrid starlet’s agent opens up on January exit, future: ‘The decision has already been made’

Recently nominated for January’s Player of the Month in Ligue 1, Endrick has been one of the rising stars in French football since the turn of the year.

Joining Lyon on loan from Real Madrid, Endrick has hit the ground running almost immediately and has become a key performer up front, with five goals in six matches.

In light of his excellent performances, Endrick’s agent, Thiago Freitas, opened up about his decision to join Lyon and what’s in store for the attacker in the summer, among other things.

Endrick’s agent on move to Lyon

First and foremost, Freitas offered his perspective on how the Lyon loan deal came about and what motivated the player to move to France.

“Endrick has only played a few minutes with Real Madrid because when he arrived at the club, if you look at the strikers there, you’ll find that eight of the top ten players in the world play for Real Madrid,” he said (h/t AS).

However, Freitas admitted it’s only natural for such a young talent to find it difficult to get regular game-time at a club like Real Madrid.

“It’s completely natural for an 18-year-old young player to arrive at a club like this and get only a few minutes,” he added.

He also pointed out that Endrick did not feature in the FIFA Club World Cup due to an injury.

“And it’s important to point out that Endrick didn’t start the season with the rest of the players. He didn’t travel to the United States to participate in the Club World Cup and was injured,” he said.

“In a club like Real Madrid, when you’re out of the squad for three or four months, it’s very natural to face difficulty in getting back to playing in matches,” he added.

All these factors culminated in Endrick eventually considering a move to Lyon, as he looks for a place in the Brazil squad for the upcoming international break and, eventually, the FIFA World Cup.

Endrick’s life after Lyon

Freitas was also asked about Endrick and what’s in store for the Brazilian international after the end of his loan spell at Lyon, especially amid interest from various Premier League clubs.

“Endrick has been loaned to Lyon for six months. The decision has already been made, and Endrick will return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

“There is no ambiguity or secrecy around this matter. The agreement is just a loan, without a purchase option, and therefore Endrick will return,” he said.

However, Freitas was a bit tight-lipped when asked about what’s in store for Endrick next season.

“I can’t predict that, but I can say that at the end of this season, Endrick will return to be a Real Madrid player,” he added.

The agent of Endrick was also asked if the presence of a world-class star like Kylian Mbappe compels the player to rethink his future at Real Madrid.

“I can’t predict that, I don’t know. Endrick always thinks with a football mindset: the next match, then the one after, always just the next match. We can’t expect what will happen at Real Madrid next season,” he said.

“I don’t know who the coach will be, and I can’t say anything about the rest of the players, nor do I know if they’ll stay at the club or not. Talking now about next season is a waste of time, because we still have three months left of the current season,” he concluded.
