In an interview with Werder Bremen’s Deichstube fan-site, SVW sporting director Peter Niemeyer has spoken on what’s keeping Stuttgart loanee Jovan Milosevic out of the starting XI. Werder signed the 20-year-old on loan from their fellow Bundesliga outfit after a highly successful loan stint in Serbia. Milosevic has still only made one start in six appearances under Werder head coaches Horst Steffen and Daniel Thioune.
Milosevic scored one goal off the bench
It very much looked to be the case that the once-capped Serbian international was off to the proper start when he netted a spectacular goal off the bench against Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 18. Milosevic earned a start the following week against Hoffenhiem, but returned to the bench immediately after delivering a weak performance at the top of the attack.
Werder Bremen in desperate need of a striker
The horribly unbalanced nature of Bremen’s squad means that plenty of players who may not naturally work as center forwards can receive a chance to work on the top axis. Natural No. 9s such as Justin Njinmah and Keke Topp simply haven’t been able to score regularly. Njinmah (25) possesses plenty of pace, yet often lacks confidence on the finish. Topp (21) has scored only one goal all year.
Niemeyer speaks on what Jovan Milosevic is missing
“We were always aware that, as a young player, he needs time,” Niemeyer told Deichstube. “It’s important for us that he continues to work on his assertiveness. Then he will score goals for us and become significant for us.“
