Which teams will be relegated from the Premier League this season? Stay up to date with our live Opta supercomputer predictions for the 2025-26 Premier League relegation battle.
It looks like 2025-26 will finally end the run of all three newly-promoted sides being relegated straight back to the Championship.
The last two Premier League seasons have seen each of the promoted teams go back down at the first time of asking, which was a worry for Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland heading into 2025-26.
Leeds and Burnley were arguably two of the strongest sides to ever come up from the second tier. The two clubs both collected 100 points in the Championship last season, with it the first time in EFL history that two clubs have won 100+ points within the same division in the same campaign.
Sunderland came up through the play-offs after a comeback win over Sheffield United in the final at Wembley, but after an active summer transfer window, have started life back as a Premier League side very well indeed.
Wolverhampton Wanderers already look doomed after the longest winless run ever to start a Premier League season, while West Ham United are another established top-flight club under threat of dropping down to the Championship.
Nottingham Forest have struggled after an impressive 2024-25 campaign, while Crystal Palace are in freefall following a promising start to the season after winning the FA Cup last term.

How Does the Opta Supercomputer Model Work?
- Opta’s League Prediction model estimates the likelihood of teams finishing in each position in the competition. We can therefore see how successful a team’s season is likely to be, whether it’s their relegation or title chances.
- The model estimates the probability of each match outcome (win, draw or loss) by using betting market odds and Opta Power Rankings. The odds and rankings are based on historical and recent team performances.
- The model considers the strength of opponents by using these match outcome probabilities and simulates the remaining fixtures in the competition thousands of times. By analysing the outcome of each of these simulations, the model can see how often teams finished in each league position to create our final predictions.
